Dr. Yosef Zohar, Research Fellow

Dr. Yosef Zohar is a Research Fellow in the Judicial Conflict Resolution (JCR) project at the Faculty of Law, Bar Ilan University, in charge of researching Criminal JCR activities in Israel. He has received his PHD from the interdisciplinary program, Haifa University, and his MA and BA in Economics from Bar-Ilan University. His PHD thesis, under the supervision of Nobel Laureate Prof. Robert J. (Yisrael) Aumann, Prof. Oren Gazal-Ayal and Prof. Alon Harel, was entitled "Trial in the Shadow of Bargaining". It combines theoretically modelling the Plea Bargaining phenomenon, game theory analyzing the criminal system's players' incentives, empirically studying sentencing disparities using innovative methodology for measurements, and designing legislation and regulation reforms for court procedures. In order to promote reforms in the Criminal Justice System, Yosef participates in deliberations of the Constitution, Law and Justice Committee in the Knesset (the Israeli parliament), and of the Criminal Procedure Committee which advises the Justice Minister.
